PAL Aerospace Systems Engineering & Integration team is seeking a Intermediate Systems Engineer. This member of the Systems Engineering Team, reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, can be based out of any of the PAL Aerospace Offices, including: Ottawa ON; St. John’s NL; Halifax NS; or, Toronto ON.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform Systems Engineering in support of authoring technical artefacts for the missionizing of special mission and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, including: Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Operational Use Case analysis, Systems Architecture, System Descriptions, System Specifications, Compliance Matrices, Test Plans and Test Procedures, and reports.
- Conduct Requirements Engineering, analyzing, authoring, managing, and deriving operational, regulatory, standards, and customer requirements.
- Support to the Business Development teams with solution scoping, technical specification authoring and initial systems design artefacts, when assigned.
- Document and refine Systems Engineering processes to assist with the continuous improvement of the Systems Engineering and Integration group.
- Participate in Integration, Test, Physical and Functional Configuration Audits, Airworthiness Compliance and Customer Acceptance activities when assigned.
- As a matrixed resource on aircraft programs, assist Program Management, In-Service Support and Supply Chain activities with Systems Engineering guidance, including working with suppliers and third-party vendors to generate quotes, draft Statements of Work, attain and evaluate technical specifications, and take part in obsolescence management.
- Participate in System Problem Report investigations, including root cause analysis and forming recommendations for rectification.
- Travel to other PAL and Customer sites, such as St. John’s NL, Halifax NS, Ottawa ON, Toronto ON, and Winnipeg MB, approximately twenty percent of a year. International travel for conferences to PAL Operational sites and PAL international company offices is periodically required, including Curaçao, Netherlands (and other EU nations), the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, and Australia.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and technology developments for possible implementation into PAL supported aircraft and System Integration Labs, as well as processes, tools, and techniques for a best practices approach to continuous improvement.
- Apply and demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills in mission systems and system test principles.
- Communicate effectively to various stakeholders in situations involving technical problems, processes, and solutions.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree Engineering or Science, advanced degrees preferred, or equivalent experience and education.
- Five or more years’ experience as an engineer or in an advanced technical role in the aerospace, mission systems, or equivalent fields.
- Demonstrated project experience in the creation and maintenance of Engineering Artifacts for Software Intensive Systems.
- Knowledge of airborne, land, or maritime surveillance missions and the equipment used to support them.
- Knowledge of avionics data protocols including ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, serial data protocols is preferred.
- Knowledge of cyber security best practices for mission systems
- Knowledge of Ethernet protocols, LAN and WAN architectures, and network device configuration
- Knowledge of, and experience with Systems Engineering tools, standards, and process models (e.g., DOORS, JAMA, SYSML, DNDAF/DODAF, SEBOK, SWEBOK, INCOSE, CMMI, DO-160, aircraft related MIL-STDs, NIIA STANAGs, IEEE/ISO/IEC 12207)
- Knowledge of Agile processes for work management and Systems Engineering interfaces with software / system suppliers employing Agile development processes
- Proficiency with web-based office applications (e.g., SharePoint, O365, Microsoft Office, AI, Agile Management, etc.), engineering drawings, and data analysis tools
- Troubleshooting experience and superior analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work with a distributed, diverse team.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Able to obtain Canadian Level Secret Security Clearances and participate in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
