Responsibilities

The Position:

The Sr. Manager, Engineering (Ground Systems & Operations) will manage activities of two or more disciplines or departments. Oversees experienced level professionals and/or may be responsible for subordinate managers. Manages engineers and technical staff in the research, design, development, coding, and testing of software systems, solutions, and products applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Develops, modifies and executes company policies. Accountable for department budget which may be broad and have far reaching impact on the business segment.

Software Engineering

  • Manages 2 or more department activities, assigning, coordinating, and reviews work of software engineering subordinates, to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures
  • Deliver and manage large scale fleet operations for Kubernetes based hosting platforms preferably bare metal deployments using K8s / K3s, open stack or cloud
  • Analyzes technology trends to identify new product ideas
  • Collaborate with Security teams to implement platform level security controls and compliance requirements
  • Manage technical development to ensure compliance with product definitions including environmental requirements.
  • Makes or reviews decisions regarding technical approaches or product designs with staff input considering resource allocation and ensures alignment with project plan
  • Confers with management, production, and spaneting staff to determine feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products
  • Manage the development of test methodologies, plans and procedures
  • Oversee development with vendor partners for specific projects

Management

  • Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area(s) of responsibility
    Oversee subordinate managers or highly skilled professionals
  • Hire, train, develop and appraise direct staff
  • Participates in forecasting operating costs of 2 or more department and performs preparation of budget requests
  • Collaborate with external vendors/outsourcing partners to deliver successful project outcomes
  • Define and execute long term engineering roadmap
  • Partner with engineering leadership to understand developer/customer pain points and translate them to platform solutions
  • Recruit top talent and build high performing teams capable of delivering complex technical solutions
  • Conduct regular performance review, career development planning
  • Communicate platform roadmap, progress, and impact to executive stakeholders
  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure developer productivity, platform adoption and system reliability

The salary range of $136,000 – $227,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.


Qualifications

  • BSCS/CE/EE, MSCS/CE/EE or equivalent degrees
  • Experience with managing and mentoring a DevOps team of 8-15 engineers
  • 8+ years of experience managing DevOps teams
  • Experience managing and driving alignment with engineering, product teams across geos – APAC, US, other
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management skills with experience delivering complex technical initiatives
  • Experience in delivering and managing large scale fleet operations for Kubernetes based hosting platforms preferably bare metal deployments using K8s / K3s, open stack or cloud
  • Experience with deep knowledge of fleet management, GitOps principles to automate deployments, ensure consistency, and streamline operations
  • Experience managing Kubernetes cluster lifecycle, deploying applications across multiple clusters, enforcing security policies, and providing centralized monitoring and governance
  • Experience Developing and implementing GitOps workflows for automating deployments, infrastructure provisioning, and lifecycle management across the fleet
  • Experience utilizing tools like ArgoCD, Flux, or other GitOps-compatible platforms to manage deployments and configurations
  • Experience setting up centralized monitoring and logging systems to provide visibility into cluster health and performance
  • Experience using monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, Cloudwatch or similar to implement fleet health monitoring
  • Experience developing operational systems for managing platforms that enable developers and operators to use the platform effectively and while delivering rich UX
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
