This position is responsible for supporting the Procurement Department which supports the Akima, LLC family of companies.

This role is a launchpad into government contracting. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to real procurement actions. Procurement is just one aspect of a business. Here you can develop the foundation for a career in acquisition, supply chain, contracts, program management and beyond since the skills you develop will translate to many other areas of business.
This internship offers hands-on experience supporting federal customers through compliant, strategic, and mission-driven procurement operations. You’ll gain real exposure to laws and regulations such as FAR/DFARS that govern our processes, supplier engagement, subcontract administration, and actively participate in cross-functional collaboration with Contracts, Finance, and Program Management teams. This is an opportunity to build foundational skills in government acquisition while contributing to meaningful work that supports critical government missions.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do:
- Work with a mentor that will provide training and be available to answer questions that arise throughout your internship.
- Participate in the full spectrum of the procure to pay process.
- Assist in preparing and issuing purchase orders and subcontracts.
- Support cost and price analysis activities.
- Develop and maintain compliant procurement files.
- Track subcontractor deliverables and ensure timely documentation.
- Participate in proposal support activities and vendor outreach.
- Collaborate with program, contracts, and finance teams to ensure procurement actions align with contractual requirements.
- Gain exposure our industry recognized ERP, Deltek Costpoint.
What You’ll Learn:
- Federal procurement regulations (FAR/DFARS) and public laws.
- How compliant procurement supports program execution and audit readiness.
- The lifecycle of a subcontract from solicitation to closeout.
- Supplier evaluation and negotiation fundamentals.
- How procurement strategy directly impacts mission success.

- Understanding or willingness to learn of federal, state and local procurement processes.
- Ability to effectively work with a diverse team of peers and management personnel.
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Proactive attitude.
- Proficiency in general computer skills (Windows and Microsoft Office).
- Willingness to learn and accept guidance from others.
