Job Title: Repair Technician $24-$26 per hour in Des Plaines, Il - Day Shift

Job Description

The Repair Technician performs assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of FAA-approved temperature-controlled cargo containers used in cold chain shipping. This role combines hands-on mechanical and basic electrical work with facility upkeep, inventory monitoring, and occasional customer-facing activities such as technical support, training, and equipment pick-up and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair FAA-approved temperature-controlled containers to ensure they operate safely and reliably.
• Patch holes and perform structural repairs on cargo containers using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Drill out rivets and install new rivets on cargo containers to maintain structural integrity.
• Deliver containers that are clean, properly assembled, and free from defects that could affect operation or performance.
• Respond to technical assistance requests from local customers and provide clear, professional support.
• Provide training and demonstrations of FAA-approved active temperature-control systems to customers in the area.
• Document all work performed accurately and completely using the CATS system and the work order system.
• Monitor and maintain stock levels of spare parts to ensure repair work can be completed without delay.
• Pick up and drop off temperature-controlled containers (RKNs) to and from customers as needed.
• Manage warehouse activities, including material movement, organization, and basic inventory handling.
• Maintain the repair facility in a clean, safe, and fully operational condition, following all safety and housekeeping standards.

Qualifications

• At least 1–2 years of relevant mechanical, repair, or technical experience.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform hands-on assembly and repair tasks.
• Experience with hand tools and power tools for assembly, structural repair, and general maintenance work.
• Assembly or repair experience that goes beyond basic assembly line work.
• Basic electrical knowledge sufficient to support troubleshooting and repair of temperature-controlled systems.
• Ability to document work accurately in electronic systems and follow established work order processes.

Work Environment

This role is based in a repair facility located at an international airport (ORD) that supports cold chain shipping solutions for airlines, freight forwarders, and life sciences organizations. The facility operates on a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The environment is very clean and organized, focused on safety and operational efficiency.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Plaines, IL.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Des Plaines,IL.
