Job Description:

Position Summary

The Quality Technician I. supports the quality system by performing product audits, process audits, gauge studies, problem solving techniques, product disposition and other analytical methods applicable to related requirements and specifications to maintain product quality. This position is based out of our Hiawatha, IA facility and on our second shift. 

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate ISO Internal Audits Procedures and Process Audits. 
  2. Update ISO procedures, work instructions and standard works with direction from QA Engineer / Manager. 
  3. May initiate appropriate corrective action to resolve quality problems, of internal or external sources, with direction from QA Engineer / Manager 
  4. Setup, maintain and report on SPC programs. 
  5. Maintain calibration records and service/control gage inventory. 
  6. Design Gage R&R and conduct analysis 
  7. Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to present in front of various group sizes and back grounds. 
  8. Coordinate PPAP completion 
  9. Conduct process capability studies and analyze results. 
  10. Assist in ISO Internal Audits Procedures and Process Audit. 
  11. Audit processes and work areas for conformance to appropriate instructions, materials, and identification. 
  12. Operate electronic data collecting equipment along with a network-based computer system. 
  13. Verify accuracy of gages and measuring instruments, such as calipers, plug gages, dial indicators, and pressure gages using master gages and standards. 
  14. Accurately read gages, prints, part identification, specifications, and procedures. 
  15. Actively participate in Parker’s “Lean” initiatives. 
  16. Ability to work all shifts and work overtime as necessary 
  17. Assist with data and product/process information and analysis. 
  18. Assist with PPAP data collection and documentation 
  19. Perform line inspections when necessary 
  20. Maintain departmental records. 
  21. Document nonconforming goods through internal quality system and communicate the non-conformances to the appropriate party. 
  22. Assist in PFMEAs, control plans and process improvements. 
  23. Perform standard test and/or preliminary evaluation programs for product compliance as well as root cause analysis on samples of routine products and defective product. 
  24. Perform product inspection and testing as required per appropriate specification or standard. 
  25. Conduct process capability studies 
  26. Obtain, evaluate, and document testing requirements on designated raw materials and finished goods. 
  27. Perform Receiving Audits in accordance with applicable procedures, standards and instructions 
  28. Generate inspection reports, make dispositions, and maintain database. 
  29. Perform containment procedures and maintain hold area. 
  30. Attend special training classes as necessary to maintain certifications and improve skill sets 
  31. Train others in Quality related skills and procedures. 
  32. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
  33. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High-Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/ SCOPE:

  • Report directly to Quality Manager 

  • Work closely with other departments to resolve issues with the processes & equipment 

Qualifications

Education required:

  1. Completed 2 or 4 year program at college, trade school, or vocation tech program

  2. APQP Training (recommended) 

  3. ASQC Certification (recommended )

Experience:

  1. Experience or familiarity with production process

Preferred Skills/ Qualifications:

  1. Two (2) years’ experience in quality or inspection
  2. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  3. Basic knowledge and use of hand tools

  4. Sound decision making skills

  5. Good math, reading, writing skills

  6. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  7. Mental and visual acuity for production of quality product

  8. Strong troubleshooting skills

Skills/ Competencies:

  1. Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office package, Minitab, QSI programs
  2. Able to demonstrate 12th grade equivalence in math and reading comprehension.

Other Skills:

Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may be subject to:

 

  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment

  • Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels

 

  1. Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)

  2. Standing is required for extended periods of time.  Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis

  3. Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions

  4. Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime
